Guides Take a Giant Leap

Coonabarabran Waratah Guides hosted the ‘Milky Way Camp’ with the theme obviously being stars and space. The Black Stump Guides and their leaders from Coolah were invited to join our Coonabarabran girls for an action packed fun weekend.
Many of the girls and some leaders took their first leap into abseiling. Brittany Kelly was one of those Guides who overcame her fears and climbed over the cliff edge. She didn’t just settle for one go but attempted 3! Bravo Brittany (See photo of Brittany in action).
A number of Waratah Guides have abseiled many times and it is these sorts of challenges which give them confidence and skills to face the many challenges in this world. Many thanks to Mr Phil Draper and Mr Max Estens, who again gave their time, sharing their expertise and encouragement with our Guides.
The camp was coordinated with Brown Owl’s usual flair for organisation, encouraging the whole team to take responsibility for leading activities. Gemma Evans programmed and ran an evening campfire which went towards her BP Award. Jemmae Dow and Alice Fosdick planned and ran a wide game with the theme of stars. Sunday morning the Guides walked up to Tara cave and half way up ‘Meriki’ organised a Guides Own which was very special in the bush setting.
Despite the weather being wet and bitterly cold the girls came home bubbling with lots of stories and laughter from a great camp! A quote from the Coolah Black Stump Guides ‘I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!’ I think that says it all.
